Mother Accused of Killing Daughter for Marriage

Zimbabwean authorities have detained a 35-year-old woman for the brutal murder of her own three-year-old daughter in what police describe as one of the most disturbing cases of maternal violence in recent memory.

Geviza Fadzai stands accused of stabbing her young child to death on November 25, 2025, in Village 2, Fair Range, Mkwasine. According to official reports from the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the mother allegedly committed this horrific act to clear the path for marriage to a new boyfriend who refused to accept a woman with children.

The Gruesome Discovery

Investigators revealed that the child suffered a fatal knife wound to the neck. Following the killing, Fadzai allegedly attempted to conceal her crime by providing multiple false accounts to community members.

She first told a neighbor that four unidentified attackers had assaulted her daughter. Later, she approached the village head and claimed the child had died from natural causes.

The truth began to emerge during burial preparations when a deep cut was discovered on the girl's neck. A concerned community member immediately reported the suspicious finding to ZRP Mkwasine, triggering a full police investigation.

The victim's body was transported to Chiredzi General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Shocking Motive Revealed

Police investigators eventually uncovered what they described as the devastating motive behind the killing. According to official statements, the suspect "allegedly killed her daughter so that she could marry her new boyfriend, who was unwilling to marry her while she had a child."

This case represents a tragic example of how relationship pressures can lead to unthinkable violence against the most vulnerable members of society.

Disturbing Pattern of Violence

This heartbreaking incident mirrors another recent case in Hobhouse, where 39-year-old Netsai Chikuni was arrested for allegedly stabbing her three-year-old son, Ngonidzashe Njerera, multiple times in the head and neck.

According to Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, witnesses heard Chikuni shouting at her son during the attack. One tenant reported hearing her say in Shona: "Idya chingwa ukuda kundiurayisa" which translates to "Eat your bread, you want to kill me."

Police officers arriving at that scene found Ngonidzashe with multiple stab wounds, two blood-stained kitchen knives beside his body, and Chikuni lying next to him with self-inflicted cuts on her hands and legs.

Both cases have sparked national conversation about mental health support for parents and protection measures for vulnerable children in Zimbabwean communities.
