Mysterious Odour Sparks Fresh Health Concerns at Ijebu-Ode Secondary School
Fresh anxiety has swept through Ijebu-Ode following reports that a mysterious and offensive odour had resurfaced at Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, leaving multiple students and staff members requiring medical attention. The incident occurred on Wednesday during school hours after a pungent smell spread through the school, leaving students and teachers uncomfortable, struggling to breathe, and in a state of panic.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the affected students and staff were swiftly transported to General Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, for urgent medical care. The latest incident has deepened fears among parents and residents, given that it is not the first of its kind in the community. In April, at least 30 students were admitted to hospital after a similar incident involving an unidentified substance at the same school.
The situation has since generated greater concern, particularly following reports that over 100 students from several schools in Ijebu-Ode, including Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, were exposed to another unknown substance in recent weeks. The development triggered emergency responses from health authorities and school administrators as investigations into the cause continued.
Parents who rushed to the school on Wednesday voiced deep concern and anger over what they described as a persistent environmental or public health hazard. They urged the Ogun State Government and relevant regulatory bodies to conduct a comprehensive investigation and take immediate steps to prevent a recurrence.
No official explanation had been issued by the authorities, including environmental specialists and emergency response agencies, as at the time of filing this report regarding the cause of the incident. However, residents have been advised to remain calm and refrain from circulating unconfirmed reports as investigations are ongoing.
The recurring nature of the incidents has heightened fears about environmental safety in schools across Ijebu-Ode. Concerned stakeholders are calling for urgent action to identify the source of the mysterious odour and implement measures that will safeguard students, teachers, and members of the surrounding community.
