The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) president, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, has publicly mourned veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who died on Sunday, August 24, 2025, after a prolonged battle with stage four cancer.
In a post on his X account, Afeez described the actor's death as deeply personal, writing: "Taiwo Hassan Death is a very painful one to me, he is one of the celebrity I so much love. May your soul rest in peace OGOGO. Good night LEGEND."
His daughter, Kira, confirmed the passing in a live-streamed video on Sunday, August 23, appearing visibly distraught alongside other family members. In the footage, she asked that her flight ticket to Nigeria be booked urgently so she could attend his Islamic burial rites. As of the time of filing this report, the family had not issued a formal statement.
Ogogo's Final Months and Family's Struggle
Legit.ng had earlier reported that Kira first raised the alarm about her father's deteriorating health in an emotional public video, revealing that doctors had concluded chemotherapy was no longer a viable option given the advanced stage of the disease. The family said they were exploring every alternative available as conventional medical routes had been exhausted.
Taiwo Hassan Ogogo built a career spanning several decades in Nollywood's Yoruba-language circuit and was regarded as one of the industry's most recognisable faces. His death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues, and public figures.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun's Tribute
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun also mourned the actor, describing his passing as a deeply painful loss. In a message posted to his official Instagram account, @dapoabiodunmfr, the governor noted that Ogogo hailed from Ilaro in Yewaland, Ogun State.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of veteran actor and illustrious son of Ogun State, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan (Ogogo). His death is a painful and irreplaceable loss to his family, the people of Ilaro and Yewaland, Ogun State and the entire Nigerian entertainment industry," Abiodun wrote.
