The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 184.5 kilogrammes of cocaine hidden in a consignment at a courier company in Lagos, marking the largest cocaine seizure from a logistics firm in the agency's history. The bust, announced by NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa at a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, led to the arrest of two suspects, including a socialite known as KC Luxury.
Street Value and Suspects Identified
Marwa disclosed that the cocaine consignment has a street value of $27.7 million, approximately N39 million. The two arrested individuals are Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, a socialite widely known as KC Luxury, and Lawal Kehinde, who works for a logistics company.
According to Marwa, the agency collaborated with the management of the logistics firm after the initial seizure, and that cooperation directly led to both arrests. KC Luxury was apprehended at a Lagos airport while attempting to board a flight out of the country.
Nigeria as Transit Route
The NDLEA chairman said the seizure exposed a broader pattern in which Nigeria is being exploited as a transit point for moving illicit drugs to the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe, and parts of Asia. The consignment was reportedly bound for these destinations.
Marwa described the operation as a significant milestone for the agency, emphasising that no courier channel would be spared from scrutiny. The agency has not disclosed further details about the investigation or potential additional arrests.
