Reverend Abiodun David and his bride, Funmilayo Bamidele, were abducted alongside four other passengers while returning from their engagement ceremony in Eruku, Kwara State. The attack occurred along the Eruku-Iyemero Road, a route linking parts of Kwara and Kogi states, according to reports.
Abduction During Journey Home
The couple had just attended their engagement ceremony in Eruku and were heading back when armed men intercepted their vehicle. The four other abducted individuals were passengers in the same vehicle, though their identities and relationship to the couple have not been disclosed.
Reports indicate the vehicle was initially expected to take the Isanlu route, but the driver reportedly used an alternative route to drop off the best man and some group members at Iyamoye in Kogi State. It was during the journey through the Iyemero-Eruku axis that the attackers stopped the vehicle and took the occupants away.
Vehicle Found Abandoned in Ekiti
The vehicle was later found abandoned near an old police facility in Ayetoro, Ekiti State, according to security officials. The location prompted security agencies from Kwara, Kogi, and Ekiti states to coordinate their efforts due to the area's proximity to all three states.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the abduction and stated that security operatives had launched a rescue operation to locate the victims and apprehend the attackers. He added that troops were combing surrounding areas as part of efforts to secure their release.
Ongoing Rescue Efforts and Concerns
As of the latest reports, authorities had not announced the rescue of the victims or disclosed whether the abductors had made any ransom demands. The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity along some inter-state routes, particularly in border communities where criminal groups have exploited difficult terrain to carry out attacks.
