Nigerian Army foils Abuja-Kaduna highway robbery

In a swift response to a distress call, troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully prevented an armed robbery attack on the busy Abuja-Kaduna highway, apprehending one suspect in the process. The incident, which occurred on Monday, January 6, 2026, highlights the ongoing security operations along the critical transport corridor.

Swift Military Response Thwarts Criminal Operation

According to an official statement from the Army, personnel from the 1 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 1 Operation FANSAN YAMMA were on a routine patrol when they received an alert about an ongoing robbery at Nasarawan Doka. The troops immediately mobilised to the scene, engaging the armed criminals and forcing them to abandon their operation and flee. The decisive action effectively neutralised the immediate threat to commuters.

Suspect Apprehended, Others Escape

During the encounter, one member of the criminal gang was shot and captured. The arrested suspect has been identified as Kabiru Zayyanu. He sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was promptly evacuated to Doka General Hospital for urgent first aid treatment. While Zayyanu is in custody, other members of his gang managed to escape the area under intense military pressure. Troops conducted a hot pursuit of the fleeing suspects, though no further contact was made.

The statement, signed by Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the Division, confirmed a crucial outcome: no casualties or abductions were recorded during the entire operation. This will come as a relief to the many Nigerians who regularly travel this vital route.

Security Dominance Maintained in the Area

Following the foiled attack, the Nigerian Army has reported that the general security situation around Nasarawan Doka and adjoining communities remains calm. Troops have maintained a strong presence and continue to dominate the area to deter any resurgence of criminal activities. The arrested suspect, Kabiru Zayyanu, is expected to be handed over to the appropriate security agency for further investigation and prosecution once preliminary inquiries are concluded.

The Army has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens. It also urged the public to remain vigilant and continue to cooperate with security forces by reporting any suspicious movements or activities promptly. This successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of proactive patrols and rapid response mechanisms in combating highway crime.
