Nigerian National Arrested in India with N290 Million Worth of Illicit Drugs
Police in Karnataka, Bengaluru, India, have made a significant arrest involving a 44-year-old Nigerian national, seizing drugs valued at around Rs 2 crore, equivalent to approximately N290 million. The arrest occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, marking a major breakthrough in local narcotics enforcement efforts.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
The accused, identified as Samuel Ikenna, was apprehended by the Yelahanka Newtown police after they received intelligence about his alleged involvement in selling narcotic substances. According to officials, Ikenna had entered India on a business visa, which he purportedly misused for illicit activities.
During the operation, police recovered around 2 kilograms of MDMA crystals from his possession. These drugs are estimated to be worth approximately Rs 2 crore in the international market, highlighting the scale of the illegal trade involved.
Background and Modus Operandi
Investigations reveal that Samuel Ikenna first arrived in India in 2012. Initially, he engaged in legitimate business by trading clothes in major cities such as Delhi and Mumbai. However, his activities took a criminal turn when he relocated to Bengaluru in 2025.
In Bengaluru, Ikenna allegedly began selling drugs while operating under the pretext of a clothing business on Bannerghatta Road. This deceptive strategy allowed him to conceal his narcotics dealings from authorities for a period, according to police statements.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
A formal case has been registered against Samuel Ikenna under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Yelahanka Newtown police station. This legal action underscores the seriousness of the charges and the commitment to prosecuting such offenses.
Police officials have emphasized that further investigation is currently underway. The primary objectives are to trace the source of the seized drugs and identify other individuals who may be involved in the broader drug network. This ongoing probe aims to dismantle the entire operation and prevent future illicit activities.
The arrest serves as a stark reminder of the global reach of drug trafficking and the collaborative efforts needed to combat it. Authorities in India are working diligently to ensure that justice is served and that such criminal enterprises are effectively disrupted.
