Tragic Stabbing Claims Life of Nigerian Professor in New Orleans

A 27-year-old Nigerian man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, is now in police custody after allegedly committing a horrific act of violence against his own family in New Orleans. The incident resulted in the death of his father and left his two sisters injured.

Details of the Fatal Domestic Incident

The attack occurred around 9:59 PM on November 11, 2025 at a residential property on Pebble Street. Law enforcement officers responding to the scene discovered an unresponsive male victim with fatal stab wounds. Two additional adult victims were found suffering from injuries sustained during the violent altercation.

Family members have identified the deceased as Samuel Eweni, a computer sciences professor at Southern University at New Orleans. The two injured victims were confirmed to be his daughters, making this a particularly heartbreaking case of domestic violence within a Nigerian family abroad.

Family Shock and Suspect's Background

Relatives expressed complete shock at the violent outburst, describing the attack as sudden and unexpected. They revealed that while the suspect had a known history of mental illness, he had never displayed violent tendencies before this tragic event.

According to WWL Louisiana, one of the injured sisters has already been discharged from medical care, while the other remains hospitalized but is expected to make a full recovery from her wounds.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

The New Orleans Police Department located and apprehended Eweni in Jefferson Parish following an intensive search. He is currently undergoing medical evaluation while remaining in law enforcement custody.

Detectives have officially identified Chukwuebuka Eweni as the primary suspect and have obtained an arrest warrant charging him with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
