A 29-year-old Nigerian man is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly stabbing his 75-year-old father to death and injuring his two sisters in a violent domestic incident that shocked the New Orleans community.
Tragic Night on Pebble Drive
Chukwuebuka Eweni, born September 23, 1998, is currently in police custody following the horrific attack that occurred on Tuesday night, November 11, 2025. The incident took place at the family home located in the 8000 block of Pebble Drive in New Orleans, Louisiana.
According to family members who spoke with WWL Louisiana, the evening began as an ordinary night at their residence before turning violent. Relatives stated that Eweni suddenly grabbed a knife and launched the attack without any apparent warning or provocation.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
The attack claimed the life of Samuel Eweni, a 75-year-old computer sciences professor at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). The academic community has been deeply affected by the loss of the respected educator.
Two sisters of the suspect also suffered stab wounds during the incident. Medical updates indicate that one victim has been released from the hospital, while the other remains under treatment but is expected to survive her injuries.
New Orleans Police Department officers responded to the scene at approximately 9:59 p.m. after receiving reports of an aggravated battery by cutting. Upon arrival, they discovered the tragic scene inside the residence.
Mental Health History and Arrest
Family members revealed that Chukwuebuka Eweni has long suffered from mental illness but had never displayed violent behavior prior to this incident. They expressed shock and confusion about what might have triggered the sudden attack.
Following the stabbing, Eweni reportedly went to New Orleans East Hospital, where he had routinely checked himself in for mental health treatment in the past. Unaware of the crimes he had just committed, hospital staff transferred him to a facility in Jefferson Parish.
Police tracked him to this facility and took him into custody on Wednesday morning. The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant charging Eweni with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

The academic community at Southern University at New Orleans is mourning the loss of Professor Samuel Eweni. Dr. Joseph Bouie, Jr., Chancellor of SUNO, released an emotional statement praising the late professor's contributions.
"Dr. Eweni was more than an educator—he was a mentor and a guiding light to so many of our students," said Dr. Bouie. "His contributions to the College of Business and Public Administration and to the university's mission of transforming lives through education will be remembered and celebrated."
The chancellor extended the university's condolences to Eweni's family, friends, and colleagues during what he described as "a deeply difficult time."
As the investigation continues, family members struggle to comprehend how a seemingly ordinary evening turned into a tragedy that has left one family member dead, two injured, and another facing serious criminal charges.
