Nigerian Man Reveals Key Mistake That Cancels Visa Applications

A Nigerian man has sparked widespread discussion online after sharing his perspective on why many visa applicants face repeated refusals. In a viral TikTok video, he argued that most applicants focus on the wrong documents while overlooking critical factors that visa officers prioritize.

The content creator, identified on TikTok as @jibrils_life, highlighted that having a large bank balance or complete travel documents such as hotel reservations, flight bookings, school admission letters, and invitation letters is not sufficient to guarantee visa approval. According to him, these elements are important but not the sole determinants.

Bank Statement Consistency Over Balance

He emphasized that visa officers pay close attention to the consistency of an applicant's bank statement, particularly the pattern of inflows and outflows, rather than the account balance alone. This, he said, explains why some individuals with millions of naira in their accounts still face refusal. He noted that irregular or unexplained transactions can raise red flags, undermining the application.

“The thing the visa officer is trying to focus on is the consistency in your bank account statement. That's the inflow and the outflow. That's why you see people with a bank balance of 40 million naira and still get refused,” he stated in the viral clip.

Importance of Home Ties

Another crucial factor he stressed is demonstrating strong ties to one's home country. Visa officers, he explained, need to be satisfied that applicants intend to return after their trip. This applies to both study and visitor visas. He advised applicants to focus on establishing convincing reasons to return, such as family, employment, property, or business commitments in Nigeria.

“The most important thing they focus on is the home tie. That's having something to your home country,” he added, concluding that applicants who successfully establish strong home ties significantly improve their chances of approval.

Public Reactions and Additional Advice

The video attracted numerous comments from TikTok users. One user, @el, remarked, “My Broda US visa officers don’t check bank statements. They just ask you.” Another, @MercyHaven StylingStudio Kubwa, simply thanked the creator. @JUDE CHIBUZO GLOBAL LTD, OJOTO asked, “Please can I use globus bank for proof of funds.” @Maggy inquired, “How do you make the home ties strong?”

In a related story previously reported by Legit.ng, a Nigerian man who is now a permanent resident of Canada recounted how his visa application was rejected 12 times before he eventually relocated to North America. He paid an application fee of N45,000 each time between 2018 and 2021, but persisted and ultimately succeeded.

The viral advice underscores the importance of understanding visa officers' priorities: consistent financial records and credible evidence of ties to one's home country. Applicants are urged to review their bank statements for irregular patterns and to prepare documentation that clearly demonstrates their intention to return.
