Nigerian Nursing Assistant Faces Multiple Felony Charges in US for Alleged Patient Abuse
Authorities in the United States have arrested a 61-year-old Nigerian man, Kayode Agbolade Ogunba, on serious allegations of sexually abusing vulnerable patients while employed as a certified nursing assistant at a care facility in Santa Barbara County, Los Angeles.
Investigation and Arrest Details
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office announced on Monday that the investigation into Ogunba commenced in early November 2025. This followed a report from a nursing home in Goleta, which alleged that he had sexually assaulted two patients during his tenure there.
After a thorough investigation, Ogunba was apprehended in Los Angeles on January 20, 2026, based on a Santa Barbara County warrant. He is currently being held at the Santa Barbara County Main Jail with bail set at $100,000.
Charges and Broader Allegations
Ogunba faces multiple felony charges, including:
- Sexual penetration
- Lewd or lascivious acts by a caretaker against a dependent person involving force
- Elder abuse
Additionally, he has been charged with a misdemeanor count of sexual battery of a dependent adult. Investigators have noted that he may have used the alias Kay in both professional and personal contexts.

Authorities have revealed that Ogunba was previously involved in similar allegations within the Los Angeles area. It is believed that he has worked in other states, including Washington and Texas, raising concerns about potential past misconduct in those regions.
