Nigerian Man and Thai Wife Arrested in Thailand Cocaine Bust
Nigerian, Thai Wife Arrested in Thailand Drug Bust

In a significant international law enforcement operation, authorities in Thailand have successfully dismantled a transnational cocaine trafficking network, resulting in the arrest of three individuals, including a Nigerian national and his Thai wife.

Police Operation Uncovers Drug Ring

The crackdown occurred on the island of Koh Phangan in Surat Thani province, where police, in collaboration with related agencies, conducted targeted patrols in the Ban Tai subdistrict. The operation was initiated following surveillance activities that identified suspicious behavior linked to drug distribution.

Initial Arrest and Evidence

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on a Monday evening, Tourist Police officers observed Mr. Kanan, a 40-year-old Canadian national, acting suspiciously while riding a motorcycle. He was noted to be wearing black clothing and using a scarf to conceal his face, prompting further investigation.

Upon searching Mr. Kanan, authorities discovered two bags of cocaine cleverly hidden in a stainless steel container up his sleeve. Additionally, methamphetamine paraphernalia was found in his room, strengthening the case against him.

Phone records obtained during the investigation clearly indicated that the drug delivery had been arranged at the very location where the arrest took place. When questioned, Mr. Kanan admitted to obtaining the drugs from an individual known only as “Maria KPG.”

Sting Operation Leads to More Arrests

Building on this information, authorities orchestrated a sting operation to purchase 2 grams of cocaine from “Maria KPG.” A white sedan arrived at the designated meeting point, where officers swiftly arrested two additional suspects: John Chukwudi Ukadike, a 43-year-old Nigerian national, and his Thai wife, identified as Mintra.

A search of their vehicle revealed cocaine wrapped in black tape and concealed under the carpet of the sedan. During subsequent interrogations, Mintra disclosed to police that her husband, John, did not have stable employment and frequently engaged in drug deliveries to tourists during nighttime hours.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

The suspects now face serious legal charges in connection with the drug trafficking activities. Mr. Kanan has been charged with possession of cocaine for sale, cocaine use, and driving under the influence of drugs.

John Chukwudi Ukadike and his wife Mintra have been jointly charged with selling cocaine for commercial purposes. Additionally, John faces an individual charge for drug use. All three individuals, along with the seized evidence, have been transported to the Koh Phangan police station for further legal processing.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have emphasized that the investigation remains active as they work to expand their understanding of the related networks involved in this transnational drug trafficking operation. The bust highlights the ongoing efforts by Thai law enforcement to combat illegal drug activities, particularly those involving international connections.

This case underscores the global nature of drug trafficking and the collaborative measures required to address such criminal enterprises effectively.
