NIS Debunks Fraud Claims, Warns Public on Fake Passport Payments

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has refuted circulating allegations of irregularities in its passport application and payment system, labeling them as false, deceptive, and aimed at misleading the public. In a statement released on Monday, the Service's Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration (DCI) Akinsola Akinlabi, reaffirmed that passport processing remains secure, transparent, and strictly regulated by the government.

Official Payment Channels

The NIS emphasized that all passport applications and payments must be made exclusively through its official portal: http://passport.immigration.gov.ng. This is the only authorized platform for both domestic and diaspora applicants. The Service stated it has not partnered with any religious organizations, private companies, or individuals to act as intermediaries or collect payments on its behalf. Any claims suggesting a religious body is involved in its payment structure are entirely false.

Warning Against Third Parties

The NIS declared: "The Nigeria Immigration Service does not authorize or recognize any third-party platform or agent for passport payments or processing." Such claims are deliberate attempts to deceive the public. The Service has launched internal investigations into the source of these allegations, suspecting malicious intent by individuals aiming to damage its reputation or exploit unsuspecting applicants. Preliminary findings indicate possible deliberate misinformation, and the NIS assured that appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible.

Reiterating its adherence to government financial regulations, the NIS noted it only works with licensed and accredited payment service providers integrated into its official portal. Payments made outside approved channels are at the applicant's own risk, and the Service disclaims liability for any losses or complications. The NIS urged Nigerians to stay vigilant, avoid unauthorized agents, and rely solely on verified platforms for immigration services. It stressed that no alternative or unofficial payment routes exist within its framework.
