The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has deployed a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to assist Nigerians with pending, new, or renewal passport applications, particularly those with less than one year before expiry. The team, arriving on August 10, 2026, will work with the Nigerian High Commission in London to process applications and will also visit designated cities across the UK for enrolment and processing.
Who qualifies for the intervention?
The exercise is open to Nigerians in the UK with pending passport applications, those applying for new passports, and individuals whose passports have less than one year of validity left and wish to renew. Applicants attending the enrolment must present completed application forms and proof of payment. For standard re-issues through the High Commission, additional documents include the original Nigerian passport, NIN details, and appointment documentation.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, directed Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, to deploy the team from NIS headquarters in Abuja. According to an official statement on NIS's X page, the team will also travel to various cities to bring services closer to Nigerians outside London.
Digital channels remain available
Applicants can still use the NIS Contactless Passport Application System, which had processed over 15,000 passports to Nigerians abroad as of September 2025. Online applications and home delivery services will continue during the intervention. The NIS advises applicants to monitor official High Commission channels for the schedule of city visits before travelling.
Passport fees and contact information
The intervention does not introduce new fees. Standard fees remain $150 for a 32-page passport with five-year validity and $230 for a 64-page passport with ten-year validity, unchanged since the September 2025 domestic fee increase.
