The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command, has successfully rescued a 15-year-old girl who was abducted on June 19, 2026, in Oghu Community, Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.
Details of the abduction
According to a statement released on Monday, June 22, 2026, by the Command’s spokesperson, Efosa Ogbebor, the teenage girl was abducted after she left her home to purchase a phone charging cord in the area. The victim, identified as Miss Glory Odigie, had not returned home, prompting her brother, Mr. Odion Odigie, to report the matter at the police station.
Ransom demand and investigation
The suspected kidnappers contacted the family and demanded a ransom of N800,000, warning them not to inform security agencies. Despite the threat, the family reported the incident, leading to an investigation by the NSCDC. The spokesperson noted that the investigation resulted in the arrest of two suspects: Freedom Saturday, aged 16, and Thankgod Oriabor, aged 21, at Oghu community in Ewohimi.
Rescue and current status
The victim was successfully rescued during the operation. The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing. The NSCDC commended the public for their cooperation and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
