The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 30-year-old suspect, Bayegun Nathaniel, in connection with the abduction and murder of a 16-year-old girl, Adegbaaju Florence, in the Ojijo community. Investigations reveal that the suspect killed the victim after receiving a ransom payment of N500,000 and subsequently disposed of her corpse in a river within the same locality.

Arrest and Investigation

Nathaniel was arrested on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m., following intelligence-led operations by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command. The arrest came after the victim was abducted on April 8, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m. in Ogiijo. Upon receiving the report, the police activated their anti-kidnapping response mechanism and initiated a coordinated investigation.

Suspect's Confession

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abeokuta. He stated that the suspect confessed to committing the crime alone, admitting that he collected the ransom before murdering the victim and dumping her body in the river. Efforts are ongoing to locate and recover the remains for forensic procedures, while further investigations continue to ensure a thorough and conclusive process.
