The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected 'one-chance' robbers who have been terrorizing Obantoko and its surrounding areas. A stolen iPhone 12 Pro belonging to a victim was also recovered. The arrest followed a distress call from members of the public reporting a robbery incident involving a female victim and her two sisters.
Police Response and Arrest
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Wednesday. Babaseyi stated that upon receiving the report, operatives of Obantoko Division acted swiftly on May 28, 2026, at about 5:15 p.m. and arrested the suspects.
According to Babaseyi, the victims had boarded a Nissan Micra taxi painted in Ogun State colors from the Somorin area, heading to NNPC Kuto, where they intended to connect another vehicle to Lagos after attending a wedding anniversary in the area. However, at the OLG Somorin axis, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly diverted from the agreed destination, became unruly, and forcefully ejected the passengers. Immediately after disembarking, the complainant discovered that her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen.
Swift Action Prevents Mob Justice
'Upon receiving the distress alert, operatives of Obantoko Division, in collaboration with members of the public, swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested two suspects identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak. The timely intervention of the police prevented a possible mob action by agitated members of the public,' Babaseyi said.
The stolen iPhone 12 Pro was recovered from the suspects, while the alleged operational vehicle reportedly fled the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation. Photographs of the suspects were taken for record purposes, and the recovered exhibit was released to the owner on bond, Babaseyi added.
