The Ogun State Police Command has made a shocking arrest, apprehending a commercial motorcyclist accused of murdering his wife and attempting to transport her body to an unknown location.
Police Interception During Stop-and-Search
According to police reports, the suspect, Godonu Lowe, a resident of Omolende Village, was intercepted by law enforcement officers on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at approximately 1:05 p.m. The arrest occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Ilaro area.
Police spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident in an official statement released from Abeokuta. She revealed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received credible intelligence about a man fleeing the community with a woman's dead body on his motorcycle.
Gruesome Discovery of Wife's Body
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the DPO mobilized his team and successfully intercepted the suspect. What they found was horrifying - a fresh corpse tied in a sack at the back of Lowe's motorcycle.
When police opened the sack, they made a tragic identification. The deceased woman was confirmed to be the motorcycle rider's wife. Preliminary examination revealed she had suffered bleeding around the neck and multiple cutlass injuries, indicating violent assault.
Evidence Recovery and Ongoing Investigation
The police immediately suspected foul play and launched a thorough investigation. Officers later recovered a blood-stained cutlass from the crime scene, which they believe was the murder weapon.
Currently, the suspect remains in police custody while the victim's body has been transferred to the morgue in Ilaro for autopsy. The autopsy will determine the exact cause of death and provide crucial evidence for prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo has commended the public for their vigilance and urged continued cooperation. He emphasized that timely reporting of suspicious activities to law enforcement can prevent crimes and save lives, no matter how minor the suspicion might seem.
