Onanuga Slams Peter Obi as Pathological Liar Over Death Fears
Onanuga Slams Peter Obi as Pathological Liar

Presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga has described Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi as a 'pathological and serial liar' after Obi expressed fears for his life ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Obi's Claims of Government Harassment

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Obi alleged that the Tinubu-led government is doing everything within its power to frustrate him and his businesses. He doubted he would be alive for the 2027 elections, citing an incident involving his car at the airport as an example of government targeting.

Obi claimed that people are being pressured not to invite him to social events, painting a picture of a coordinated government campaign against him.

Onanuga's Response on X

Reacting on X (formerly Twitter), Onanuga dismissed Obi's claims as 'unfounded and misleading.' He stated: 'Peter Obi’s recent claims of being targeted by the government—citing an incident involving his car at the airport, which, by his own account, must have resulted from flouting parking regulations—are simply unfounded and misleading.'

Onanuga further accused Obi of being a 'pathological and serial liar' who drags the government into every personal inconvenience. He said: 'His claim that he may not be alive for the January 2027 election and that people are being pressured not to invite him to social events is nothing more than a fabricated narrative, a page from his book of lies and propaganda.'

Obi's Stake in Fidelity Bank

Onanuga pointed out that Obi has a substantial interest in Fidelity Bank, which continues to thrive under the current administration's economic reforms. He argued that the government is not targeting the bank, contrary to Obi's insinuations. 'Rather than being 'haunted' by the government, Mr Obi appears to be grappling with the consequences of his litany of unfounded statements,' Onanuga added.

Government Focused on Reforms

The presidential aide emphasized that the Tinubu government remains focused on consolidating its reforms for the benefit of all Nigerians. He concluded: 'It has neither the time nor the inclination to be distracted by Mr Obi’s self-serving narratives and lies or by his candidacy, as he constantly diminishes himself with specious, unverifiable utterances.'
