One dead, injured in multiple crashes on Kara Bridge, Lagos

A fatal accident occurred on Kara Bridge, inward Mowe-Ibafo, in the early hours of Friday, July 24, after a truck overturned, resulting in one death and two injuries. The incident caused a multiple-vehicle crash and severe traffic congestion on the busy corridor.

LASEMA Responds to Early Morning Crash

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday. Its Response Team was deployed to the scene at approximately 5:46 a.m. following reports of a truck accident obstructing the road. Upon arrival, responders found a truck loaded with bags of monosodium glutamate lying on its side, blocking about 75 percent of the carriageway inward Mowe-Ibafo.

Brake Failure Blamed for Overturned Truck

According to LASEMA, preliminary investigations revealed that the crash was caused by mechanical failure, specifically brake failure. The driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the overturn. The impact triggered heavy traffic and a secondary collision involving four other vehicles: a Toyota Sienna, a mini truck carrying paint, a flatbed truck loaded with imported plywood, and another fully loaded truck. The collision caused paint and wooden sheets to spill onto the road.
