The Nasarawa State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against organ trafficking, arresting a suspected organ harvester and successfully rescuing four young men who were his intended victims.
Operation and Arrest in Lafia
The arrest took place on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the Yahaya Sabo Motor Park in the Bukan Sidi area of Lafia, the state capital. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Mohammed Jauro, announced that the command apprehended the 40-year-old suspect, Maro Ebojoh.
According to the police chief, the suspect was caught while he was allegedly preparing to harvest the kidneys of the four young men. The intended victims were identified as Umar Ahmed Barau (25), Suleman Alhaji-Garba (20), Williams Dadung (32), and Stanley Ezekiel (27).
The Lure and The Confession
The police revealed that the victims were lured into the dangerous scheme with promises of a large sum of money. The suspect had offered each of them N2 million in exchange for one of their kidneys. To make the offer seem legitimate and entice them further, an initial deposit of N500,000 had already been made to the victims.
Following his arrest, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime. In his confession, he admitted to having previously procured a donor for another client just two months prior. For that transaction, he received N1 million from the client while paying the victim N2.5 million.
Medical Care and Public Warning
After the rescue operation, the police took immediate steps to ensure the well-being of the victims. CP Jauro explained that the command detailed operatives to the facility where the illegal organ harvest was scheduled to occur. The victims were initially placed on medical rest at a hotel to stabilize the blood pressure of one individual before undergoing further screening.
Subsequently, all four men were sent to a medical facility in Abuja for a comprehensive medical assessment.
Commissioner Jauro used this opportunity to issue a stern warning to the public, especially with the festive season approaching. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and be wary of individuals who present themselves as legitimate organ donors. He emphasized that organ harvesting is a growing menace in Nasarawa State, which often preys on poor youths engaged in menial jobs as a means of survival.
