The Osun State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the suspected cult-related murder of a 40-year-old man whose lifeless body was discovered inside a vehicle in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to police sources who spoke to security analyst Zagazama Makama, the incident was reported at approximately 12:15 a.m. on July 25, 2026, after the body of Abayomi David was found inside a Toyota Camry with Lagos registration number LND 468 HL along Alatori Road, Olude, Osogbo.
Police Respond to Scene
The sources revealed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dugbe Division immediately led a team of detectives to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found that the vehicle's engine was still running, indicating the attack occurred moments before discovery.
Investigators recovered nine expended ammunition shells around the vicinity, suggesting that the victim was shot at close range. The scene was thoroughly documented with crime scene photographs taken as evidence.
Body Deposited for Autopsy
The victim's body was subsequently evacuated to the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Mortuary in Osogbo, where it has been deposited for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and other forensic details.
Police suspect the killing may be connected to cult-related violence, although investigations are ongoing to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the murder. The command emphasized that efforts have been intensified to identify and apprehend those responsible.

In response to the incident, police have increased surveillance and monitoring in the area to prevent further violence and to track down suspects. The command urged members of the public with any useful information to come forward to assist the investigation.
