Oyinbo Lady Rejects Job Offer in Abuja After Early Morning Interview
Oyinbo Lady Rejects Job Offer in Abuja Over Low Pay

A foreign lady residing in Nigeria has shared her experience after attending a job interview in Abuja, revealing that she turned down the offer due to unsatisfactory pay and working conditions.

The woman, who documented her journey on TikTok under the handle @oliaanddan, woke up at 5:30 AM to prepare for the interview, hoping to avoid Abuja's heavy traffic. In her video, she noted, 'I woke up at 5:30 AM... you could hear the chickens crowing.' Her early start was meant to ensure she arrived on time for the interview at a cosmetology center.

Interview Outcome and Salary Disappointment

In a follow-up video, the lady confirmed that she successfully passed the interview and was offered the position of a front desk receptionist. However, the excitement quickly faded when she learned the salary. She disclosed that the offered pay was exactly half of what she had budgeted for, making it impossible for her to cover transportation costs and save money.

'The job is for a front desk receptionist in Abuja for a cosmetology center. So, yes, I got the job. But the offer was half of what I expected,' she explained. She added that living outside the city center meant she would have to spend a significant portion of her earnings on taxis, leaving little for savings.

Working Conditions and Decision

Beyond the low salary, the lady expressed dissatisfaction with the work schedule, which required her to work 10 hours a day, six days a week. She stated, 'Also, the schedule for this job is six days a week for 10 hours a day. It’s too much for the salary that would be left after all the spending on transportation. So, it doesn’t make sense.'

She emphasized that the combination of low pay and long hours made the job unsustainable, leading her to reject the offer.

Reactions from Nigerians

The videos sparked a wave of reactions on TikTok, with many users sharing their thoughts on the situation. Some comments included:

  • Fashion designer in Ajah: 'Abuja is not that early, you can do that in Lagos.'
  • Godsultant: 'Hunger never kill you. You better go fastttt. Because that will open you up to other opportunities.'
  • Ehi deblackgurl: 'Yeah love. Welcome to Nigeria. I wish you good luck with the job hunting. If u need help with any interview let me know.'
  • Joshua Aneji: 'You will get a job with a better offer soon.'

The lady's experience highlights the challenges faced by job seekers in Nigeria, including low wages and demanding work schedules, which often force candidates to decline offers that do not meet their financial needs.
