Oyo Police Arrest Two for Exhuming Human Skull from Cemetery

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with the unlawful possession of a suspected human skull, following a swift operation based on credible intelligence. The arrests were made after the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered a joint operation involving police operatives and the Amotekun Corps.

Arrest and Recovery

During the operation, one Shittu Isah of Kajola Area, Ijio, was successfully apprehended, and the item suspected to be a human skull was recovered and secured as an exhibit. The suspect was immediately taken into police custody for further investigation.

Confession and Second Arrest

During interrogation, Shittu Isah confessed to having exhumed the suspected human skull from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio. He further admitted that he did not act alone, leading to the arrest of one Tunde Ajibade, who is currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations.

Police Statement and Next Steps

Confirming the arrest to newsmen, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that the recovered exhibit has been preserved for forensic examination to ascertain its nature. Investigators are working diligently to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the offence, establish the motive behind the act, and determine whether other persons are connected to the crime.
