The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 27-year-old individual, Abdullahi Gambo, in connection with an alleged armed robbery and grievous harm inflicted on a commercial motorcyclist in Ningi Local Government Area of the state. The incident reportedly took place on May 11, 2026, around 2:00 p.m. along the Gada Maiwa–Zakara Road in Ningi.
Details of the Attack
According to the police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspect, who resides in Kanaka Village within Ganjuwa Local Government Area, allegedly attacked the Okada rider using a stick, striking him on the head during the assault. The victim suffered various degrees of injuries and was promptly taken to a medical facility, where he is currently responding well to treatment.
The suspect reportedly made off with the victim's motorcycle following the attack. However, operatives from the Ningi Division, assisted by local residents, pursued and apprehended him. The stolen motorcycle was recovered immediately after the arrest, as stated in the police report.
Confession and Ongoing Investigation
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to committing the crime. He remains in police custody, aiding investigators in their inquiries. The case is slated for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Police Commissioner's Response
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the attack and reiterated the Command's dedication to combating criminal activities throughout the state. He urged residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to security agencies for prompt action.
