The Osun State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in a horrifying murder case, with the arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in the killing of a senior Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her daughter for money ritual purposes.
Chilling Confession from a Herbalist
Osun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan, disclosed the arrests on Wednesday while briefing journalists at the command headquarters in Osogbo. He detailed a complex investigation that began when the alleged mastermind of the crime was reported missing at the Ikoyi Police Divisional Headquarters on November 10.
The man had reportedly left his house in the Power-line Area of Osogbo for prayer activities at the Ikoyi Prayer Mountain. The Police Anti-kidnapping Squad launched a discreet investigation and found the suspect's car, a Toyota Corolla Vaso, abandoned on the Ibadan/Ife Expressway.
Gruesome Discovery at Esa-Odo Dam
In their search for the missing man, police arrested a herbalist known as "Aberefa" on November 16. The herbalist confessed that the missing person was his customer. He revealed a horrifying tale, explaining that the suspect had brought a woman and her daughter to him for a money ritual on November 3.
"The herbalist explained that the suspect brought a woman and her daughter to him for money ritual on Nov. 3, and that the woman (a senior FRSC officer) and her daughter had been killed," CP Gotan stated.
Aberefa, however, named three other individuals as the actual perpetrators of the murder. Acting on this information, detectives were led to the Esa-Odo Dam on November 17, where the remains of the FRSC officer were recovered. The body was mutilated, with vital parts including the head, breasts, hands, and private parts missing. The remains were deposited at the UniOsun Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Arrests and Recovery of Second Victim
The investigation gained further momentum on November 20, when one of the suspects named by the herbalist was arrested in Ekiti State. During interrogation, this suspect confessed to slaughtering both the mother and daughter on the instruction of the herbalist, whom he referred to as his boss.
He also confirmed that the two other suspects mentioned were responsible for butchering the victims' bodies. This suspect then led police detectives to a bush where the body of the murdered daughter was recovered.
Tragically, her body was also mutilated, with the head, hands, and feet missing. Her remains were also taken to the UniOsun Teaching Hospital morgue.
The police have now secured three suspects in custody as the investigation continues to unravel the full circumstances of this heinous crime.
