The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate a businessman and unlawfully take over his landed properties in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area. The arrests were announced by the command's spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, in a statement issued on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
According to the police, the suspects—Obiora Nwankwo, 38; Chiadikobi Okoye, 36; Emmanuel Mboko, 42; and Ifeanyi Obi, 37—were apprehended at different locations in Ukwulu and Amichi on Wednesday, August 12. Two firearms and live ammunition were recovered from them during the operation.
Intelligence-Led Operation Leads to Arrests
The police said the arrests were the result of a strategic intelligence operation directed by the state Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama. Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, working with Agunechemba security personnel attached to Amichi, Nnewi, acted on credible intelligence to disrupt the alleged plot.
“The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered an alleged plot to murder a citizen and unlawfully take over his landed properties in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, following the strategic intelligence emplacement of the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips,” the statement read.
Suspects in Custody, Investigation Ongoing
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were linked to a scheme to murder the businessman and subsequently seize his property. The police are conducting a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of the conspiracy, identify any other persons involved, and determine the specific roles of each suspect.
“The suspects are currently in Police custody and will be made to face the full weight of the law upon the conclusion of investigations,” the statement added.
Police Emphasize Proactive Strategy
Commissioner Ama stressed that the operation highlights the effectiveness of the command's renewed intelligence-led policing strategy, which aims to detect criminal threats early, disrupt planned attacks, and prevent the loss of lives and property.
The arrests underscore the police's commitment to safeguarding citizens and their assets in Anambra State. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
