According to an official statement released by the command's spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, on the morning of Thursday, 8th January 2026, a 24-year-old man named Wisdom Onyeaju is now in police custody. Onyeaju, a resident of Umuekweye, Irete, in the Owerri-West Local Government Area, was arrested in connection with the alleged crime.

In a significant parallel development, the command also confirmed the detention of several police officers linked to the case. These officers are accused of exhibiting professional misconduct during their handling of the matter. They are scheduled to face an Orderly Room Trial starting Monday, 12th January 2026.

The footage reportedly alerted the victim's family, who then took formal steps by lodging an official report with the police command. DSP Okoye stated that the arrest of the suspect was made based on credible information received from the victim's family.

Wisdom Onyeaju is currently undergoing a thorough investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri. The police have assured the public that once the investigation is concluded, the suspect will be arraigned in court to face appropriate charges.
