Yobe Police Command Dismantles Criminal Syndicate in Coordinated Operation
The Yobe State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state, with the arrest of seven suspects linked to a series of burglary, theft, and phone snatching incidents. This coordinated operation, which took place between April 16 and 19, 2026, targeted a notorious criminal syndicate operating in several communities within Damaturu Local Council.
Details of the Arrests and Suspects
In a statement issued yesterday in Damaturu, the command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the development. He revealed that the operatives of ‘A’ Division, Damaturu, successfully dismantled the syndicate, leading to the apprehension of the suspects. The individuals arrested have been identified as Usman Mohammed, 20; Abubakar Adamu, 20; Mohammed Ibrahim, 22; Mohd Goni, 19; Khalifa Mohammed, 19; Abubakar Mohammed, 19; and Ali Mohammed, 23.
During police interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in a series of criminal activities within the affected areas, specifically Nayi-Nawa, Bindigari, One Million Road, and Pompomari communities. They admitted to stealing a total of nine phones, comprising seven Android phones and two keypad phones. As part of the investigation, six of these stolen phones have already been recovered and are being held as exhibits.
Police Response and Ongoing Efforts
SP Abdulkarim stated that investigations are currently ongoing, with the aim of prosecuting the suspects to ensure justice is served. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication in combating crime in Yobe State. He emphasized the importance of sustained operations targeting criminal hideouts and enclaves across the state.
The commissioner also highlighted the need for enhanced surveillance and intelligence-led policing strategies. He urged the public to continue supporting the police by providing credible information, which is crucial for strengthening the fight against crime and maintaining security in the region.
This arrest marks a notable success for the Yobe State Police Command in its relentless pursuit to curb criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents in Damaturu and surrounding areas.
