Police Arrest Six for Sexual Assault of Minors in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested six men in connection with the sexual assault of minors, including a father accused of raping his 15-year-old daughter. The arrests were announced by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, during a press briefing on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

Suspects Paraded for Multiple Crimes

The suspects were paraded alongside others arrested for various offenses, including alleged kidnapping, vandalism, staged kidnapping, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Among those paraded was a 42-year-old man, Oji Okoro, accused of sodomizing a 12-year-old boy. According to the CP, the incident was reported on August 13, 2026, at about 1620 hours, involving an unnatural offense where the boy, an apprentice, was allegedly sexually assaulted at the suspect's residence on August 12, 2020. Okoro has been arrested, and investigation is ongoing.

Teacher and Father Among Those Charged

Also paraded was 52-year-old lesson teacher Daniel Erumudonmoh Okhuilegbe, arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. The complainant alleged that the suspect, hired as a home lesson teacher, abused the trust placed in him. Following the conclusion of the investigation, the suspect was charged before the Benin High Court on August 14, 2026, and remanded at Oko Correctional Centre, Benin.

In another case, a 42-year-old father was charged for the alleged rape and defilement of his 15-year-old daughter. The case was reported on August 6, 2026, and after a discrete investigation at the state headquarters, the suspect was charged to court on August 14, 2026, and remanded at the Benin Correctional Centre, pending further proceedings.

Other Suspects Arrested and Detained

A 29-year-old suspect, Samson Amachie, was arrested over an allegation involving an 11-year-old girl. The complainant alleged that the suspect lured the child to an uncompleted building behind his shop and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her. Following investigation, the suspect was arraigned before the Benin High Court and remanded at Oko Correctional Centre.

On August 12, 2026, a report was received concerning the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl. Preliminary investigation revealed that 26-year-old Otaru Jonathan took the child on a motorcycle to an uncompleted building at Afokpella, where he allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with her and subsequently gave her N2,000. The survivor was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and attention. The suspect was arrested and remains in custody. Preliminary investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be arraigned in court.

On August 14, 2026, a report was received concerning the alleged defilement of an 8-year-old girl by 21-year-old Innocent Emmanuel. The complainant alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted the child while her parents were away from home, and that the child had previously disclosed repeated sexual harassment by the same suspect. The suspect has been arrested and detained, while the victim was taken to Viviana Medical Center for medical examination. Preliminary investigation is ongoing.
