The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended six individuals suspected of being involved in the abduction of a police officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Silas Kundi, and his son, Enoch Silas, in Kaduna State. The suspects allegedly collected a ransom of N24 million from the victims' family.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, made this known during a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, where he detailed the operational achievements of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) of the Force Intelligence Department (FID). According to Placid, police intervention led to the safe rescue of Enoch Silas, while efforts to free CSP Silas Kundi are still ongoing.
Details of the Arrests
The suspects were identified as Yusuf Shuaibu (23), Abubakar Bature (19), Yau Murtala, Bello Suleiman (19), Abdul Kareem Nuhu (36), and Ahmed Musa (28). They were arrested on April 3, 2026, in Kaduna State by operatives acting on actionable digital intelligence.
Placid stated, “Operatives of the FID-STS, acting on actionable digital intelligence, arrested Yusuf Shuaibu, Abubakar Bature, Yau Murtala, Bello Suleiman, Abdul Kareem Nuhu, and Ahmed Musa on April 3, 2026, in Kaduna State.”
Preliminary Investigation Findings
Preliminary investigations revealed that Yusuf Shuaibu is a kidnapping kingpin with ties to a notorious syndicate led by a gang leader known as Kachalla Gwanna. The syndicate operates from camps in Rijana Forest, Kaduna State.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in the abduction of CSP Silas Kundi and his son, Enoch Silas, from Kujama Town in October 2025, during which a ransom of N24,000,000 and other items was collected,” Placid explained.
Despite the ransom payment, the victims were not released until police intervention, which led to the rescue of Enoch Silas unharmed. Efforts are still ongoing to rescue CSP Silas Kundi.
Other Crimes Linked to the Syndicate
The suspects are also linked to the kidnapping of Yusuf Mohammed, Aminu Mohammed, and Aisha Yusuf, where a ransom of N18,000,000 was collected before the victims were rescued through police operations. Investigation is ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, rescue remaining victims, and recover operational weapons.
The police spokesman added that investigations are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the syndicate and recover weapons used in the operations.
