The Niger State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old man and a teenager on charges of homosexuality and sodomising minors. The arrests were confirmed in a statement released on Thursday, May 7, 2026, by the command's spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
Arrest of Isah Usman
The first suspect, identified as Isah Usman, 37, is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting boys aged 15, 13, and 14 within his compound. According to the police, Usman, a honey seller from Angwan Biri Area, would force the minors to engage in unnatural sexual acts in his room. He reportedly threatened the victims after each assault and gave them 500 naira and some honey as inducement.
Police operatives attached to Bosso Division arrested Usman on April 23, 2026, following a report received at about 3:30 p.m. The victims were taken to the Police Clinic in Minna for medical examination, which confirmed the allegations and indicated penetration. Usman confessed to the crimes and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Arrest of Yusuf Shehu
In a separate incident, the command arrested a 16-year-old boy, Yusuf Shehu, for allegedly committing unnatural sexual acts with a 14-year-old boy in an uncompleted building. The case came to light on April 28, 2026, when the minor was seen spending money lavishly. Questioned by his boss, a mechanic, the minor revealed that Shehu would give him between 2,000 and 2,500 naira after each act.
Police at the GRA Division received a report at about 5:45 p.m. on the same day and promptly arrested Shehu. Investigations are ongoing to identify other victims and possible accomplices. Shehu will face charges for unnatural offences.
Police Advisory
SP Wasiu Abiodun urged parents and guardians to monitor and protect their wards against such unnatural offences, warning of the health implications for victims. The police reiterated their commitment to bringing perpetrators to justice.
