The Edo State Police Command has arrested two suspected kidnappers in the Iyamho community, located near Edo State University. The arrest was announced by the command's spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, in a statement released on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Arrest and Recovery
According to the police, the suspects, identified as Sani Kabir, 23, and Hamza Nuhu, 25, are believed to be involved in kidnapping activities in the area. The arrest was carried out by police operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) following credible intelligence.
During the operation, the police recovered several items from the suspects, including two Dane guns, one live AK-47 round of ammunition, two cutlasses, one police woven headgear, one hunter's headlamp, four cans of gunpowder, assorted charms, and several locally made bullets.

The operation took place on April 27, 2026, at approximately 10:35 a.m. Operatives from the Iyamho Division responded swiftly to reports of suspected kidnappers sighted near Edo State University. The police acted on credible intelligence and apprehended the two suspects without incident.
In a statement, the police command said: "In a decisive move against criminality, the Edo State Police Command has recorded another operational success in its sustained crackdown on kidnapping and related violent crimes across the State."
Commissioner's Directive
The Commissioner of Police for Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. He reaffirmed the command's commitment to ensuring that Edo State does not become a safe haven for kidnappers or other criminal elements.
CP Agbonika commended the swift response and professionalism of the operatives involved in the arrest. He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, emphasizing that security remains a shared responsibility.
