Police arrest two suspected kidnappers, recover 26 goats in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two members of a kidnapping syndicate and recovered 26 stolen goats in Gujba Local Government Area. The spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Victim Abducted and Escapes

According to the statement, armed men abducted one Idi Musa of Kolmamaji Village on July 7, 2026, taking him and his Kasea motorcycle to an unknown destination. The Gujba Divisional Police headquarters received a distress report and immediately mobilized operatives for a coordinated search-and-rescue operation alongside intelligence gathering. On July 10, the victim escaped from the kidnappers' hideout and reported to the police.

Arrests and Recovery

Acting on credible information provided by the victim, police operatives arrested two suspects on July 11: Musa Damuna, 23, and Yusufa Muhammad Bello, 21, both of Mutai Ward, Gujba Local Government Area. During the operation, police recovered 26 goats suspected to be stolen. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had already disposed of the victim's motorcycle before their arrest. Efforts are ongoing to trace and recover the motorcycle and apprehend other members of the syndicate who are at large.

Police Commitment and Public Appeal

The suspects remain in police custody while investigation continues. They will be prosecuted upon conclusion. The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, charged officers to sustain proactive, intelligence-led policing. He also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police, assuring them of the Command's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
