Woman Arrested After Attack at Durbar Hotel

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested a 25-year-old woman, Maimunatu Idris, for allegedly cutting off her boyfriend's manhood with a knife at Durbar Hotel in the Badawa area of Kano. The incident occurred after Idris learned that her boyfriend intended to marry another woman, according to police reports.

The suspect, a resident of Maigatari Local Government Area in Jigawa State, was taken into custody following the attack. The State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Monday, July 27, 2026.

How the Attack Unfolded

According to a security worker near the hotel, Idris invited her boyfriend to lodge at the hotel after discovering his plans to wed another woman. The eyewitness recounted: “She asked him to lodge at the hotel so they could stay together. It was there she used the opportunity to cut his manhood.” The suspect was immediately apprehended by people at the scene and handed over to police.

Kiyawa stated that the Divisional Police Officer led a team of detectives to the hotel after the report was made. Officers recovered the knife used in the assault as evidence. The victim was swiftly taken to Abubakar Imam Urology Hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Police Condemn Act of Self-Help

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, strongly condemned the attack and warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands under any circumstances. He assured residents that the Command would conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the suspect is prosecuted in accordance with the law. Kiyawa added that the investigation into the matter is still ongoing.

The case has drawn attention to similar incidents of intimate partner violence. In a related episode, a woman attacked her husband with a knife just four months after their marriage, nearly severing his manhood. The husband, 40-year-old Salisu Idris, said he was rescued by neighbors who rushed him to the hospital.

Another Fatal Incident in Ondo State

In a separate tragedy, a young man named Michael Ikuedowoni was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Augustina Mowari, in the Okitipupa community of Ondo State. The state police public relations officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, shared details about the incident and the next steps for the investigation.

The Kano State Police Command urges anyone with information about violent acts to report to the authorities rather than resorting to self-help. The command reaffirms its commitment to upholding law and order in the state.
