The Ondo State Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against crime by busting a car theft syndicate and apprehending two suspects in Akure. Swift Action Following Victim's Complaint
According to a statement released on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the case began when a report was filed by Robert Adeyemi. He reported that his Toyota Camry was stolen on February 14, 2026, while he attended a social event on Sijuade Street in Akure. The vehicle, a custom-colored saloon car with registration number AH173WWD, was parked in front of the venue and taken by unknown individuals.
Acting promptly on this complaint, detectives from the command launched a comprehensive investigation. They deployed intelligence-gathering techniques and other strategic methods to track the stolen vehicle and identify the perpetrators behind the theft.
Investigation Leads to Arrests and Recovery
Through diligent investigative efforts, police operatives successfully traced the stolen Toyota Camry to Awolo Akingbade, a 40-year-old male found in possession of the car. He was immediately invited for questioning, which revealed crucial information about the theft.
Further investigation uncovered that the vehicle had been sold to Akingbade by the principal suspect, David Adeyemi. Police subsequently apprehended Adeyemi, who is alleged to have stolen the car and disposed of it by selling it to the buyer. The stolen Toyota Camry has been recovered and is now held as an exhibit at the police station.
Both suspects have cooperated with the police, providing useful information to aid the ongoing investigation. Upon conclusion of the investigative process, they have been charged to court to face justice for their alleged roles in the criminal act.
