The Ogun State Police Command has dismantled an alleged 'baby factory' at Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children, and arresting six suspects including a nurse. The operation, conducted on August 24, 2026, was disclosed in a statement by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Emmanuel Opeyemi, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Operation Details and Rescue
According to the police statement, operatives from the Mowe Division acted on sustained intelligence and stormed the syndicate's hideout at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village via Gbarinmole, a suburb of Mowe, at about 8:00 a.m. on the day of the raid. Preliminary investigation revealed that human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had been systematically occurring at the facility over time.
The rescued pregnant women were identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who is seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who is eight months pregnant. Additionally, four young children—comprising two males and two females—were recovered from the scene.
Arrest and Missing Newborn
The operation led to the arrest of six suspects: Florence Glory Ogbona (female, 58), Magdalene Julius (female, 63), Chidike Egwuonwu (male, 40), Onyechu Chidike (male, 35), Stephen Ogbona (male, 39), and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya (female).
Further intelligence-led follow-up operations led operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where another victim, Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had given birth to a baby boy on August 20, 2026. While the mother was receiving medical treatment, the whereabouts of the newborn child could not be accounted for, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse to aid in locating the infant.
Investigation and Police Commitment
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for continued diligent investigation to establish the full extent of the syndicate's activities, locate the missing newborn, and ensure the prosecution of every culpable suspect.
