The Nasarawa State Police Command has demonstrated its operational readiness by thwarting a dangerous armed robbery attempt in the early hours of Wednesday. The swift police response prevented a potentially worse outcome at a wine shop located in the bustling area of Mararaba, within Karu Local Government Area.
Swift Police Action Prevents Major Crime
According to the official account provided by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the incident unfolded at approximately 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. A group of four armed suspects launched an attack on the commercial establishment situated along Calvary Road. The robbery left one individual injured before police intervention.
"Upon receiving the distress call, police operatives responded swiftly and disrupted the robbery operation," SP Nansel stated. The arrival of security forces caused panic among the criminals, who fled the scene in disarray to avoid arrest. Their hurried escape led to a critical piece of evidence being left behind.
Recovery of Weapon and Launch of Manhunt
In their flight, the suspects abandoned a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, which was promptly recovered by the police operatives at the crime scene. This recovery is a significant blow to the criminal network and provides a tangible lead for investigators.
Following the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has taken decisive action. He has ordered an intensive manhunt to track down and apprehend the four fleeing suspects. Furthermore, CP Mohammed has directed that the case file and the recovered exhibit be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a comprehensive and thorough investigation.
Command Reaffirms Commitment to Public Safety
In a statement aimed at reassuring residents, the Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command's unwavering commitment to combating crime in all its forms across Nasarawa State. This operation in Mararaba occurs within a broader context of heightened security operations nationwide.
It echoes similar successful interventions by other commands, such as the Enugu State Police Command's interception of an armed robbery near Agric Bank Bus Stop in December, which also led to an arrest and recovery of a weapon.
The Nasarawa police have seized this opportunity to call on the public to remain vigilant and to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and useful information. This partnership is deemed essential for maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all communities.
