Cross River Police Apprehend Suspect in Illegal Firearm Case Following Assault Report
The Cross River State Police Command has successfully arrested a 34-year-old man, identified as Ukong Abraham, for the unlawful possession of a firearm in the Ikom Local Government Area. This arrest was initiated after a formal complaint was lodged on April 15, 2026, by a 22-year-old woman, Delight Benjamin, who alleged that the suspect had assaulted her, resulting in bodily harm.
Swift Police Action and Coordinated Manhunt
Upon receiving the report, detectives from the Ikom Police Division acted promptly to invite the suspect for questioning. However, police authorities revealed that upon sighting the operatives, the suspect attempted to flee in an effort to evade arrest. This prompted a coordinated manhunt, which ultimately led to his tracking and apprehension through what the Command described as an intelligence-driven operation.
Recovery of Firearm and Ongoing Investigations
During the subsequent interrogation, a search conducted on the suspect resulted in the recovery of a locally made pistol in his possession. This discovery has raised significant concerns about his potential involvement in other criminal activities within the region. The suspect is currently being held in police custody, and investigations are actively ongoing to ascertain the full extent of his actions and determine whether he is linked to additional offences in the area.
Police Commitment to Public Safety
Reaffirming its dedication to public safety, the Police Command emphasized its resolve to clamp down on the proliferation of illegal arms across Cross River State. The authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious movements or activities. Members of the public were encouraged to utilize the Command’s emergency lines or report directly to the nearest police station to support ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the community.
