Tensions flared in the Badawa area of Kano metropolis on Saturday night following an alleged act of blasphemy, which prompted a swift and forceful response from local residents. The situation, which threatened to turn deadly, was ultimately defused by the timely intervention of police operatives.
Hotel Disturbance Sparks Mob Fury
The incident was reported at the Sarina Hotel in Badawa Quarters at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 21. According to sources familiar with the event, three men identified as Musa Tasiu, Awwal Ibrahim, and Soja Snu, all from Dorayi Quarters, had visited the hotel premises.
It was alleged that during their visit, one of the men, Musa Tasiu, entered the hotel's mosque. Sources claim he shattered the glass door of the mosque, picked up a copy of the Holy Quran, and proceeded to tear it. This alleged act immediately triggered outrage among people within and around the hotel.
Police Swift Action Prevents Tragedy
Following the report, a large and angry crowd mobilized rapidly, surrounding the suspect and creating a highly volatile situation. The suspect was on the verge of being lynched by the enraged mob, escalating the risk of fatal violence.
A police patrol team attached to the local division responded promptly to a distress call received by security operatives. The officers arrived at the scene and successfully extracted the suspect from the hostile crowd, dispersing the gathering and preventing further escalation.
