Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have rescued two men accused of motorcycle theft from an angry mob in Kotangora. The suspects, identified as Hassan Adamu, 35, and Bashar Isah, 28, both from the Usubu area of Kotangora, were saved by a police patrol team on August 24, 2026, after a crowd gathered to lynch them.
Police Statement on the Rescue
The spokesperson for the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. According to the PPRO, the suspects confessed to having stolen the motorcycle from a residence at the Federal Low Cost area of Kotangora. Abiodun said an agitated crowd had gathered at the scene to lynch the suspects when a police patrol team arrived and rescued them.
“On 24th August 2026 at about 8pm, based on information received at 'B' Div Kotangora that one Hassan Adamu 35yrs and Bashar Isah 28yrs, both of Usubu area of Kotangora were seen with a suspected stolen motorcycle at Usubu area,” the statement read.
Confession and Ongoing Investigation
The police patrol team of the Div moved to the location, and the suspects were immediately rescued from the agitated crowd who gathered at the scene to lynch them, and they were taken into custody. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to having stolen the motorcycle on the same date at about 3am from a residence at the Federal Low Cost area of Kotangora.
“Investigation is in progress and they will be charged to court soon,” Abiodun added.

The rescue prevented potential mob violence, and the suspects are now in police custody. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will face charges in court shortly, according to the police statement.
