Breakthrough in Murder Investigation
According to the Rivers State Police Command, a major breakthrough has been achieved in the investigation into the murder of Shedrack Ogadinma Chukwem, a 42-year-old man from Umuemeshie Community in Igbo-Etche, Etche Local Council. The Command's Spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, detailed that detectives from the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emuohia Annex, arrested 29-year-old Robinson Uche on March 6, 2026, following weeks of meticulous intelligence gathering.
During interrogation, Uche confessed to his role in the killing and provided explicit details of how the crime was executed. He revealed that he and four others were contracted to bring the victim to Chief Elijah Okere's residence on December 17, 2025. The other suspects remain at large, prompting an expanded manhunt by law enforcement agencies.
Details of the Crime and Concealment
The plan, however, went awry when the group attempted to apprehend the victim at a family meeting, resulting in his untimely death. In an effort to conceal the crime, the group transported the body to a remote bush area in Ekerre-Ugbor, where they buried it in a shallow grave. Acting on Uche's confession, police officers exhumed the decomposed body from the site, which has since been deposited at a military hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
Forensic experts are currently working to gather additional details about the circumstances surrounding the death, aiming to piece together a comprehensive timeline and evidence for the ongoing investigation. The police have reiterated their commitment to tracking down the remaining suspects and uncovering the full extent of the crime, including the alleged involvement of a sponsor.
