Policeman Shoots Tied-Up Suspect in Warri, Video Sparks Outrage

A disturbing video has emerged from Delta State, capturing the moment a police officer fatally shot a young man in Warri. The footage has sparked widespread outrage and demands for justice. In the clip, the victim, whose hands were tied behind his back, is seen pleading for his life. He offered to assist the officers by leading them to a suspect he claimed had deceived him. Speaking in pidgin, he said: “Officer I beg, I go tell you everything. Na my friend na him deceive me. Him dey Sapele, I go carry you go there.”

Despite his desperate pleas, the officer, who appeared to be interrogating him, fired multiple shots at the victim’s legs. Moments later, he reloaded his weapon with bullets obtained from a colleague and shot the young man in the head at close range. The 30-second video, believed to have been secretly recorded by one of the officers at the scene, shows the fatal shot occurring around the 27th second.

While some officers expressed concern after the shooting, others were heard chanting “Ogbe gbe” in apparent approval of the shooter. The incident reportedly took place on Monday, April 27, 2026, under the Efurun Area Command. The officer involved is said to have fled the scene.

Reactions and Calls for Investigation

Speaking with The Guardian, social activist Harrison Gwamishu confirmed that the victim died at the scene and his body was deposited in a mortuary. “The incident was disturbing. The victim was already offering to take them to Sapele, so the killing raises serious questions,” he said. He added that efforts are underway to ensure a thorough investigation. “We are on the matter and will get to the root of the case. The presence of the video is critical, as it provides evidence of what transpired,” he stated.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, did not respond to enquiries as of the time of filing this report.
