Operatives of the Special Area Rumudomaya police division, attached to the Rivers State Police Command, have arrested a man identified only as Goodnews for allegedly raping his neighbour's 16-year-old daughter in Rivers State.
Incident Details
According to a family friend of the victim's parents, Chidi Obulor, who spoke to newsmen on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the incident occurred on Monday, May 4, 2026, in Rukpokwu, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The source revealed that the suspect, who lives in the same compound as the teenager, tricked the victim into his apartment under the pretense of sending her on an errand, and then had carnal knowledge of her.
Police Response
Following a formal complaint by the girl's parents, policemen from the Special Area Rumudomaya swung into action and arrested the suspect. The victim was rushed to a hospital, where a medical examination was conducted, and she is currently receiving treatment.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect, stating that an investigation is ongoing.
“I can confirm the arrest of the suspect by operatives of Special Area Rumudomaya, and investigation has also commenced,” she said.
