The Rivers State Police Command has strongly condemned the brutal attack that resulted in the deaths of four individuals in Omoku, located in the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of the state. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, July 22, 2026, when gunmen suspected to be cultists killed the Omoku Zonal Commander of the Local Government Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Ozomela Stephen Nwaocha, along with three women.
Police Spokesperson Confirms Incident
The command's spokesperson, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the incident in a statement. According to Kaborlo, one Obidi Emenike sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment. The command has assured the public that those responsible will be identified, arrested, and made to face the full weight of the law.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, psc, mnips, fcai, described the incident as unfortunate, disturbing, and a threat to the relative peace currently being enjoyed in Rivers State. Call for Collaboration
The Commissioner of Police further enjoined all community-based security groups and local vigilante outfits across the state to work in close collaboration with the Rivers State Police Command under the supervision of their respective Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders. “This collaboration is essential to ensure proper coordination, enhance operational effectiveness and prevent members of such groups from becoming targets of criminal elements while carrying out their lawful responsibilities,” the statement added.

The command appealed to members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police by providing credible and timely information that will assist ongoing investigations. All information received will be treated with the strictest confidentiality. “The Rivers State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will not relent in its efforts to rid the State of criminal elements,” the statement concluded.
