Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the brutal murder of a retired judicial officer. A 25-year-old security guard, Godwin Mngumi, has been taken into custody as the prime suspect in the killing of Justice Ifeoma Okogwu (Rtd).
Details of the Arrest and Confession
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, confirmed the arrest to journalists. According to the police spokesperson, the suspect was apprehended by detectives from the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). A critical piece of evidence, the mobile phone belonging to the late retired justice, was recovered from Godwin Mngumi.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime. He stated that he invited his friend, identified as Nnaji Obalum, and another suspect who is currently at large, to the residence of the retired judge. The trio then allegedly carried out the heinous act together. Based on this confession, police have also arrested Nnaji Obalum. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the third suspect involved in the crime.
