Suspected Serial Killer & Prison Escapee Arrested in Delta
Serial Killer Arrested While Selling Victim's Phone

The Delta State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected serial killer who had been on the run since escaping prison during the 2020 EndSARS protests.

The Phone That Led to Justice

On October 24, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer in Agbor received crucial information about a man attempting to sell a suspected stolen phone. Police officers were immediately mobilized and apprehended the suspect, identified as Michael Ezenwai, at the scene.

During initial interrogation, Ezenwai claimed he had brought the phone from Libya. However, his story quickly unraveled when the device rang later that same day. The caller identified herself and stated the phone belonged to her sister, 26-year-old Christabel Egedefe.

Gruesome Discovery and Confession

Acting on this new information, the DPO led operatives to Christabel's residence in Agbor, Ika Local Government Area. There, they made a horrifying discovery - the young woman was found dead in her apartment.

Confronted with the evidence, Ezenwai confessed to murdering Christabel during a robbery operation at her home on October 23, 2025. He admitted to killing her when she resisted handing over the keys to her motorcycle, after which he stole her mobile phones.

The suspect initially attempted to blame the victim's father for the crime, but later recanted, admitting he was trying to frame the deceased's father.

Shocking Criminal History Unveiled

Further investigation revealed Ezenwai's extensive criminal background. The suspect had escaped from the Oko Correctional Centre during the EndSARS jailbreak in 2020 and had been evading authorities since then.

More disturbingly, police discovered that Ezenwai was part of the syndicate that raped and murdered Uwaila Omorzua, a 200-level student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). The young student was brutally killed in a church where she had gone to study in 2020.

Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue into his involvement in other crimes.
