Plateau Community in Shock as Aborted Twins Found Dumped at Refuse Site

Residents of the Special Site community in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State have been left in a state of profound shock and anger following the grim discovery of aborted twins at a local refuse dump. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, has cast a pall of distress over the area, with many describing the scene as both heartbreaking and deeply disturbing.

Discovery of the Foetuses

The foetuses, believed to be approximately five months old and identified as a male and a female, were reportedly found inside a polythene bag at the dump site located behind a residential area. The discovery was made by a man engaged in irrigation farming, who noticed unusual activity that prompted further investigation.

Enman Danladi, a commercial driver residing near the refuse site, provided a detailed account of how the situation unfolded. "I am a commercial driver doing town service. When I returned from work, a man who was carrying out irrigation farming behind my house came to inform me about what he had seen," he told Daily Trust. "He said he noticed a dog sniffing a polythene bag, with flies hovering around it. That made him suspicious. After chasing the dog away, he checked the bag and discovered the twins, then rushed to alert me."

Community Response and Burial

Upon being alerted, Danladi immediately notified other neighbours, leading to about eight residents gathering at the scene to confirm the distressing find. "We all went there and confirmed what he had seen. It was a very painful sight," he added, highlighting the emotional impact on those present.

The community members collectively decided to bury the foetuses near the dump site. Before the burial, however, strong emotions surfaced among residents. "Some residents expressed anger and condemned whoever might have carried out the act. The women, in particular, were deeply emotional, and some broke down in tears," Danladi recounted, underscoring the widespread condemnation of the act.

Lack of Suspects and Official Report

When questioned about potential suspects, Danladi indicated that no individual had been identified in connection with the incident. "Acts like this are often carried out by people who are not from the immediate area, making it difficult to trace those responsible," he noted, suggesting the challenges in holding anyone accountable.

He further confirmed that the matter was not reported to authorities, as residents agreed to handle the burial themselves. "Since the discovery, there has been a heavy atmosphere in the area. People are still shaken, especially the women," Danladi said, describing the sombre mood that has enveloped the community in the aftermath of this tragic event.
