Nigerian Woman's Social Media 'Marital Bliss' Masks 8-Year Abuse Allegations

A Nigerian hair vendor, Esther Okereke, has gone viral after accusing her husband of eight years of domestic violence and plotting to kill her to steal her property, starkly contrasting the image of marital happiness she consistently portrayed on social media platforms.

Allegations of Abuse and Theft Plans

According to reports from LIB, Esther Okereke took to social media to raise an alarm, alleging that her husband, Justice Okereke Ezechimere from Imo state, is planning to kill her in order to take possession of her house and other valuable assets. In a widely circulated video, Esther detailed that she has endured eight years of abuse and violence throughout the marriage.

She explained that she recently returned to Nigeria from a business trip in Vietnam and discovered that her husband had allegedly taken her important documents and vacated their shared residence. Expressing exhaustion from the marriage, Esther stated her desire for a divorce and emphasized that her husband should be held accountable if any harm befalls her.

Contrast with Social Media Persona

These serious domestic violence allegations stand in sharp contrast to the carefully curated image of marital bliss that Esther has maintained on her social media accounts. In posts dated January 2024 and September 2025, she described her husband as her unwavering support system, thanking him for not hindering her ambitions.

"The bone of my bone. The flesh of my flesh. The crown upon my head. My backbone. My support system. This man will literally stay awake to make sure I am breathing," she wrote in one heartfelt post. She further appealed to her followers, "Abeg make una help me say a prayer for this man that changed my life. I never knew hubby has been monitoring me since from that Facebook, my consistency, my hard work, the things I post, the things I say, in fact it was just God."

Recent Developments and Medical Treatment

Meanwhile, Esther shared another video on Thursday showing her receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital. In the emotional clip, she lamented, "Since I got married, I have not rested," highlighting the ongoing toll of her marital situation. The video was shared on the Instagram account of Linda Ikeji's blog, drawing significant public attention and sparking discussions about domestic violence and the discrepancies between online personas and private realities.

This case underscores the complex dynamics of domestic abuse, where victims may feel compelled to maintain a facade of happiness publicly while suffering privately. It also raises important questions about the role of social media in masking serious personal crises and the challenges faced by individuals in abusive relationships.
