One soldier was killed and another injured after gunmen ambushed troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade in Imo State. The soldiers were on a mission to assess a burnt vehicle in the Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area when the attack occurred.

Details of the Attack

The incident took place at approximately 12:53 p.m. on May 4, 2026, along the SPDC–Etekuru road. The troops had been dispatched to inspect a burnt Hilux vehicle, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama. Upon arriving at the location, the soldiers came under heavy fire from the assailants.

During the encounter, one soldier identified as David Emmanuel Chuka was killed in action, while another sustained injuries. The attackers reportedly made off with two AK-47 rifles and partially damaged a military vehicle.

Response and Aftermath

Reinforcements were quickly deployed to support the troops, forcing the gunmen to flee the scene. A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of two burnt vehicles and two corpses. The bodies were evacuated to a hospital morgue for further investigation and necessary action.
